Coach Jon Nielson began training in the martial arts in 1971 and has, throughout the years, received instruction in Shotokan, Kenpo and Wado Ryu Karate, Taekwondo and Hop Ki Do, Muay Thai, Monkey, Black Tiger, Chun Shu and various Kung Fu systems, Wu Shu, Aikido, Jiu-jitsu, and Judo. In 1980, Coach Nielson discovered Wing Chun. "Up to that point, my experience with martial arts had left me with several questions. Wing Chun answered them all one by one. Occasionally, I would enroll in another martial art system, but I found that I had already learned the root of every technique in Wing Chun, and that Wing Chun allowed me to find more efficient ways to apply those techniques."

In addition to Wing Chun training, Coach Nielson practiced gymnastics for 18 years, licensed as an EMT, achieved a Master's Degree in Linguistics and taught English at the university level for 20 years.
Coach Logan Williams studied Ninjitsu before he discovered Wing Chun. He completed the system and now teaches in Ohio.
